The nomination was made by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with an expired mandate. Again, there is only one candidate, and the Minister of Justice, who was actually Mr. Sarafov's deputy until recently, apparently decided to slap him on the shoulder and not make a nomination.
This was stated by Kiril Petkov, co-chairman of “We continue the change”, at a briefing. This is how he commented on the news that Borislav Sarafov is the only candidate for the new chief prosecutor.
Petkov recalled the warm relations between Borislav Sarafov and the popular criminal Petyo Evroto. “Some call him the eighth dwarf. His nomination is inadmissible. A club in the hands of one person“, he commented.
PP-DB plan to refer the case to the Constitutional Court (CS). They will seek support from all political parties, with the exception of “New Beginning” of Delyan Peevski.
„We need 48 signatures to refer to the SC. It's not about the individual. We need to have processes that generate trust. In the end, the Prosecutor's Office decides whether to charge someone or not, explained Nadezhda Yordanova, former Minister of Justice, now candidate-deputy from the PP-DB Coalition.
„We are the state of expired mandates. This is the main reason to ask for the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council to legitimize a new election. If it can – to have a competitive procedure”, urged Gen. Atanas Atanasov from DB.
