The Plovdiv Court of Appeal confirmed the remand order "house arrest" of the mayor of Mineralni Bani Myumyun Iskender, previously imposed by the District Court in Haskovo.
According to the prosecutor's office, the mayor, his son Ali Ali and Bayryam Ilyaz acted as an organized criminal group, and the accusation refers to document and tax crimes, money laundering, bribery, illegal acquisition of funds from the European agricultural funds.
In relation to Bajryam Ilyaz, the measure also remains "house arrest", and for Ali Ali, the court will rule at the next session, since his lawyer did not appear today for health reasons.
After the meeting, the supervising prosecutor in the case, Angel Kanev, pointed out that the investigation is ongoing and the charges against each participant in the group have yet to be specified.
Also, depending on the collected evidence, it will be assessed whether to request the removal of the mayor of Mineralni Bani Myumyun Iskender from office.
