„Vote buying, apart from distorting election results, destroys confidence in the electoral process and leads to ever lower voter turnout. It's a vicious circle – the lower the voter turnout, the greater the weight of the bought and manipulated vote and it predetermines the seats in the parliament, commented in the studio of "Hello, Bulgaria" the former Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Demerdzhiev.
According to him, the special actions against the bought vote in the country do not lead to great results.
„Two or three detainees were announced, but subsequently none of them were arrested either for buying votes or for any other form against the electoral rights of citizens. These actions rather look like PR operations and an attempt to cover up the delayed reaction that was not carried out at the beginning of the process”, Demerdzhiev also said.
According to him, the names in the lists discovered during the special operations are known to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “This is a circle of people who permanently participate in these criminal practices, they are not only engaged in buying votes”, Demerdzhiev also said.
According to him, the ultimate goal is that these people do not commit such crimes.
The former interior minister also commented on the subject of the arrest of Ceyhan Ibryamov.
„The blows are targeted and show that one of these two opponents has gained over the years the power and the ability to use state institutions as clubs - something that is inadmissible and intolerable,” Demerdzhiev pointed out.
„The Attorney General is the top of the pyramid, but below him there are many people who rank according to the same principle – dependencies are sought and created. The fact that no magistrates have been convicted and left speaks volumes. I fervently hope that the procedure for the election of the chief prosecutor will not end this way, he explained.
