Members of the civil movement “Boets” protested in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs this evening and demanded the resignation of Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov. The organization accuses him of not ensuring the fairness of the upcoming elections and covering up vote-buying schemes.
Protesters gathered in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs demanding the resignation of acting minister Atanas Ilkov. The event is organized by the BOEC civil movement.
Protesters blocked traffic on “6 September” street. There is an increased police presence in the area of the ministry.
The organizers handed out umbrellas to the police officers at the protest “as a symbol of the “umbrella” that Atanas Ilkov has turned the Ministry of Interior into”.
„With his actions, he turned these people from law enforcement officers into “umbrellas”. Hopefully now, by handing them these umbrellas, they will realize the humiliation they are being subjected to. This humiliation is not caused by us, but by their superiors," said Georgi Georgiev from BOEC.
He also appealed to the protesters not to escalate and not to throw stones at the ministry building because it belongs to the citizens.
A little later, the protesters tried to break through the police cordon in order to submit to the ministry a request for the resignation of acting interior minister Atanas Ilkov.
Subsequently, Georgi Georgiev from the BOPP was allowed to leave the document at the department.
