Rumen Ovcharov: A broker sold the BSP to Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov - 1

A broker sold the party to Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov. This is not BSP in its true form, but a leadership that usurped power in a scandalous way. Currently, he is completely changing the politics of the BSP, turning it into a structure serving corporate and private interests. I don't think ordinary voters will support something like that".

This was stated by the former chairman of the metropolitan socialists and member of the National Assembly of the BSP Rumen Ovcharov in the program “12+3“ on the Bulgarian National Radio.

„The current leadership of the BSP is a servant of this same model”, Ovcharov said. In his words, the connections of BSP figures with GERB and Delyan Peevski are "unprovable, but visible".

„The BSP has never come out with a positive result from its participation in the government,”, emphasized Ovcharov. According to him, the party needs a complete change, not a pseudo-change of the "superficial".

„There is not a single reason why Cornelia Ninova, Ivan Chenchev and Georgi Svilenski should be excluded. They excluded them in order to eliminate Cornelia Ninova from a future internal party election of a new chairman, because they are afraid that they will not win against her, Rumen Ovcharov said in response to a question in the studio.

In the conversation about the current political picture: “It is not very clear to me exactly what task the BSP is conducting these negotiations with. I don't think that task No. 1 of the socialist party is how to form a government with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov”, commented the iconic socialist.

„The task is not just to make this parliament work. We observed such working parliaments until 2020. As a result - a state totally controlled by the corruption of Boyko Borisov and a judicial system controlled by Delyan Peevski. Now what do we want? Shall we resuscitate all this again?!“, reacted Ovcharov.

In his words, these are the two evils that the political forces must fight if they want to restore statehood in Bulgaria. “Let's not raise slogans and go around in a vicious circle. The step is in this direction. And the BSP could be the initiator of exactly this step”, pointed out the iconic face of the capital's socialists.

„A cabinet should be formed around things for which there is a consensus”, said Rumen Ovcharov and gave examples: „If there are controversial theses – for example, entry into the Eurozone is a debatable issue, we leave it out of brackets, we do not comment on it now. The issues of relations with Russia, we do not have a consensus on this issue, we put it outside the brackets, we do not comment on it now. However, we have a consensus on the judicial system and the measures that need to be taken there, on changes to the Electoral Code, so that we do not allow Peevski-Borisov to buy 200-300 thousand votes just like that and then make us big winners. Third question – yes, it needs a budget, these are the main referees of the budget. These 3 issues are resolved, a government is formed," Rumen Ovcharov pointed out and added: "When someone wants to do a job – looks for a way when he doesn't want to – look for reasons“.

„I don't see a particularly big reason for the “Maritsa East” not being able to find a solution. Bulgaria has fulfilled its requirements under the Kyoko Convention since 1990 – we have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50%. Something they haven't done in Europe. So, we don't need to be involved any more in this issue of emissions trading, which is practically killing the coal plants in the “Maritsa East” complex. And if this issue is put clearly and categorically enough in the EC (I don't see why they don't do it), I think we have a pretty good basis to conduct normal and reasonable negotiations regarding the “Maritsa East” complex, commented the former energy minister.
