The Supreme Judicial Council terminated the procedure for the election of the chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court due to a lack of of received applications. The plenum made a fourth last attempt, but no nominations were made.
Thus, the current chairman Georgi Cholakov, whose mandate expires on November 22, remains at the head of the Supreme Court until a new incumbent is elected, as the Judicial College has determined him to be acting, BNR reports.
The chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Boyan Magdalinchev, explained that there is no deadline for announcing a new procedure, but the SJC will do so as soon as possible:
"Basically, there is a deadline a long time ago that was missed - not earlier than 6, not later than 4 months. Because of the constitutional changes, nothing else could be done during this period. And that is why I say that there is no binding deadline at this point, but in any case the SJC plenum will do it as quickly as possible so that the procedures can proceed. We expected that the plenum of the Supreme Administrative Court would nominate a candidate. It is more correct, fairer, according to my understanding, that it should be a candidate from YOU.
