Kaloyan Metodiev: Aggression and violence in public places is getting out of control - 1

Aggression and violence in public places getting out of control. For the last few days, social networks and media have been flooded with cases of violence in malls and on the streets. In the “Paradise“ mall run youth gangs, beat, rape girls and adults, toilets are dens… In the “Bulgaria“ mall in front of hundreds of people, a youth pack beat up a waiter who was defending people who had been spat at and insulted. The young man is in a serious condition in hospital. Football gangs taunted children and stripped them in a shop in Lyulin. The footage is on all televisions. The gangs are wearing black hooded tracksuits, shaved heads… One type. For months, I have forbidden my daughter to set foot in the "Paradise" mall, after she told me with her classmates what was happening. These gangs didn't fall from the sky. We often see them in the gardens in the neighborhoods – they occupy benches, make dirt, harass whole residential carriages. We see them in public transport. They even attacked me on the tram after I defended a man who remarked to them that they were putting their feet up on the seats. This is a daily routine in public transport. They get down and bang on the windows, smoke in the cars, girls and boys with the latest models of phones, shout, harass the passengers… These are not children!

I have been writing articles on the subject for years. As an MP, I prepared a question for the Minister of the Interior about violence in malls. We have an escalating social problem with aggression. Bullies create role models, attract new people to their gangs, bully good students, show disrespect for adults.

This is a political issue of the highest order. A matter of leadership and tough measures. The parents of gangsters should be severely punished because they are often accomplices and role models.

Unfortunately, the media and society erupted after innocent people were again in hospitals, not preemptively. The solutions are increasing the sanctions and punishments. Permanent prevention. Police in the places where these gangs form and operate – public transport, kindergartens, parks and malls. To break even in the places where they gather, so that they cannot harass innocent people. Reduction of evening hours until dark – you can't have teenagers standing all night on the streets. Uniforms or at least a dress code in schools. Searches for knives, boxes, guns (the British stop and search model). Politeness and good manners program in society (Singapore and Canadian models). Disbanding the football hooligans who are a major part of these bullying groups. A few months ago, the Mitsotakis government in Greece disbanded them after violence and killings. We need a tough approach to crime. The moment has come!

Of course, isolation and no voice for all political formations and leaders who demonstrate filth, cynicism, violence, babbling, aggression and have criminally proven deputies, municipal councilors, mayors. Vote buying and stolen elections are directly related to the toleration of gangs, agitators, parents of problem children. This ends up increasing criminal networks and aggression. Everything is connected. The fish always smells from the head! What kind of society are we if we allow some small group to bully us and mess with our children and we don't react together?
