Nearly 2 million leva from the state budget were paid for deputy salaries while the deputies were electing the speaker of the 51st National Assembly. This is shown by a report under the Access to Public Information Act, provided to "Darik Radio".
For a period of 25 days - between November 11 and December 6, 2024, the 240 deputies received a total of 1,850,000 leva in salaries, without adopting a single law or making any decision, except for the election of Natalia Kiselova as speaker of the parliament.
The administration of the National Assembly confirms that for the period November 11-30 alone, the gross salaries paid amounted to 1,388,083.77 leva. For the first six days of December, the amount exceeds 460 thousand leva.
The members of parliament held 11 meetings, which were essentially a continuation of the first, with a single item on the agenda - the election of the Speaker of the Parliament.
During this period, the deputies did not receive funds for travel to their constituencies. Those without housing in the capital were accommodated free of charge in properties from the housing fund of the National Assembly.
For the period up to November 30, no additional expenses for associates, consultations, expertise and other activities accompanying parliamentary life were recorded.
