The bridge on the Struma highway near the village of Mursalevo is in critical condition. The threshold and abutments of the 102-meter-long bridge have been undermined, announced the regional governor of Kyustendil Alexander Pandurski, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio. The facility was built more than half a century ago. Currently, a restriction has been introduced for the passage of trucks on it, but it is not being observed.
The bridge is used to pass 7-8 villages on the right bank of the Struma. The facility falls within the easement of the "Struma" highway. At one stage, it was municipal, the Kocherinovo Municipality was responsible for it, but it is now state-owned.
The regional governor of Kyustendil Eng. Alexander Pandurski:
"Next year they will wait for funding. There is a hydraulic threshold on the Struma River near Mursalevo in the direction of Blagoevgrad, which is after the bridge connecting the other villages - Borovets, Buranovo and on the other side - Dragodan and Frolosh, which is starting to collapse and there is a danger of the road collapsing".
The mayor of the village of Mursalevo, Yuri Kovachev, is quite critical:
"This bridge will fall one day, since the thresholds have been there for 20 years and have not been repaired, but have fallen and the bridge is being undermined. One day this bridge will fall and they will probably throw millions, millions, millions and no one is taking any measures".
