On average, 10 children a week seek help from doctors in the country after drinking, with the number increasing during the holidays.
This was commented on to “Telegraph“ by pediatrician Dr. Vessela Aleksandrova, who is part of the team at UMBAL - Burgas. She specified that the more serious and dangerous cases for health are when alcohol use is combined with various narcotic substances and additives.
“We often receive visits from underage patients with alcohol intoxication. This is nothing new. If in Burgas we register one or two cases a week, in Plovdiv there are probably three or four, and in Sofia even more. It is natural that it is related to the number of population and the period. During the holidays, cases become more frequent, as well as during the summer season with us. "There were also more cases on St. Nicholas Day in our country," commented Dr. Alexandrova.
Usually, young people get drunk on social occasions - birthdays and name days, parties with friends.
“They mix drinks - vodka with whiskey and brandy, and end up in conditions that require medical attention. The most common reasons for getting drunk, which teenagers share with us after they recover, are a breakup with a boyfriend or an argument with parents... These are the main scenarios. Now around Christmas, when they are on vacation and have events, alcohol intoxications happen“, she also reveals and explains what alcohol abuse can lead to: “It ends up in an inadequate state, including loss of consciousness, and adolescents should be aware of this danger and not expose themselves to risks that can be easily avoided. You also remember the recent case in Svishtov, where a 17-year-old died in a restaurant.
