The management of BDZ should take this responsibility and increase security in places where they are vulnerable and there should be a stronger presence of security guards, said Acting Minister of Interior Atanas Ilkov to journalists in Ruse regarding the incident at the Central Station – Sofia, in which four people died.
Traditionally, during the Christmas and New Year holidays, our presence at the Central Station is increased, but we guard the halls, the approaches to the station, but there is no way for us to guard the entire station area and the carriages, Ilkov explained.
According to him, specialized police operations are regularly carried out in the territory of Sofia, in various places, including at the Central Station.
Atanas Ilkov added that crimes such as pickpocketing, distribution of narcotics, as well as telephone fraud are documented in this area, with the amounts that were illegally acquired by the defrauded individuals being left at the station.
The Minister of State refused to provide more information on the case, since the procedural actions have not yet been completed.
