A new system for managing car traffic in front of Terminal 2 comes into effect today, the press center of “SOF Connect“, operator of Sofia Airport, announced, quoted by BTA.
The system is the result of the introduction of the best European practices and aims to improve the organization of traffic, safety and quality of service for passengers and visitors. It will also prevent improper parking and traffic jams, while offering flexible and convenient solutions for parking and parking, the airport indicates.
“SOF Connect“ is actively working to provide travelers with a safer, more comfortable and better organized passenger experience at Terminal 2. The introduction of the controlled access system is an important step in the transformation of Sofia Airport into a modern European airport. It is based on the highest European standards and successful models of airports such as Munich, Amsterdam and Rome, which have proven the effectiveness of such a traffic organization,“ said Jesus Caballero, CEO of “SOF Connect“, quoted in the press release.
From January 9 this year, every traveler who wants to reach Terminal 2 by car will pass through barrier systems that register the license plates of the cars.
The new system will also introduce the Kiss & Ride concept ("Hug Zone") – a zone specifically designed for short free stays, in which drivers can drop off or pick up passengers without blocking traffic. In the Kiss & Ride zone, car drivers will have 10 minutes of free parking in front of the terminal building to drop off or pick up passengers. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes.
Those who exceed the free parking time will be charged as follows: from 11 to 30 minutes - 10 BGN; from 31 to 59 minutes - 15 BGN; each started hour - 20 BGN. For cars of disabled people, an extended free parking period of up to 30 minutes is provided.
Tourist transfer buses during this winter season until the end of March this year will be entitled to 30 minutes of free parking in the Kiss & Ride zone and in Parking P8, which is located near it. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes. Bus drivers who exceed the free parking time will be charged as follows: from 31 to 59 minutes - 30 leva; each started hour - 40 leva.

Public transport will have unlimited free access to Sofia Airport Terminal 2. Parking in the Kiss & Ride zone or on the streets around Terminal 2 is not allowed. For passengers and visitors, Sofia Airport offers three parking lots with different price categories, suitable for longer stays.
