I see no reason for optimism that the negotiations to form a government will resume. We will probably see a reformatting of the negotiation process. The Bulgarian National Democratic Party was in these negotiations as the main potential partner. We have every reason to think that the renewal of negotiations with the BSP-OL and the ITN is an ultimatum to the Bulgarian National Democratic Party. Rather, GERB is demonstrating confidence that they can do without them. This was stated by sociologist Genoveva Petrova in the program "The Day Begins" on BNT, quoted by novini.bg.
Until the New Year, there was hope that a regular cabinet could be formed. Now it is increasingly weakening, Assoc. Prof. Petar Cholakov believes. "The situation of the main political forces is complicated. On the one hand, they have no benefit in going to elections. On the other hand, if the DB governs with GERB, it will complicate its relations with the PP. On the third hand, if they do not sit down to negotiate, the president will come out in the rear, who will say: "they are not doing anything". The royal crown is not easy at all", he added.
If it comes to looking for new support, the APS will come out here. If instead of the DB we have the participation of Dogan's MRF - what legitimacy will this cabinet have?, asked Assoc. Prof. Cholakov.
"Yesterday, Dzhevdet Chakarov stated that they are ready to participate in talks provided that they are public and with a clear position against the "Peevski model". The possibility of at least support from the APS, not participation in a coalition agreement, is not excluded", commented Genoveva Petrova.
Behind all this, people are given reasons to believe that the political forces have no sincere intention of forming a government, she believes. It is logical for GERB to insist that the prime minister's post be theirs. The PP-DB's categorical request is that they would not accept a party person. Whoever GERB expels from its ranks will continue to be met with rejection by the PP-DB.
According to Assoc. Prof. Cholakov, the opening of the Electoral Code is a serious sign that the parties are preparing for new elections. "Another sign is the nomination of Rosen Zhelyazkov. Not only was his draft cabinet not elected, but he was removed from the post of Speaker of the National Assembly. This shows Borisov's lack of seriousness. Borisov's own candidacy was also lackluster; it was clear that he would not receive support," Cholakov noted.
