“The implementation of the project for the construction of new nuclear capacities has strategic importance for Bulgaria and the region of Southeast Europe.“ This was said by the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov at a meeting with the project director of the consortium “Westinghouse – HD&C“ and Westinghouse project director for Bulgaria Oscar Pratt and with Yunyoung Park, senior manager at Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Hyundai's director for the project in Bulgaria. It was also attended by the executive director of “AEP-Kozloduy-New Capacities“ Petyo Ivanov.
Minister Stankov pointed out Bulgaria's long-standing experience in nuclear energy and stressed the need for effective participation of Bulgarian companies in the construction of the seventh and eighth units at the Kozloduy NPP site. “In implementing the project, we will rely on quality, speed and competitive price“, said the Energy Minister. According to him, the Bulgarian side will do everything necessary to accelerate the implementation process, but this should not be at the expense of quality implementation.
During the meeting, he emphasized that the project must comply with the Bulgarian legal framework and standards, as well as international safety and environmental protection standards.
“Bulgaria's ambition is to be the first country in Europe with an operating AP1000 reactor. "I expect that together we will turn the project for new capacities in Kozloduy into a symbol of success and a standard for the implementation of nuclear power plant contracts not only in Europe, but also globally," said Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov.
