„Forget about any reform. This government does not have much public support and does not have a stable majority. There will be no lasting policy. The danger is that everyone is talking about increasing inefficiency, increasing the hole in the budget, increasing taxes. For a country in a currency board, this is a collapse”, said in the studio of „Wake up” the leader of the „Bulgaria can” party; Kuzman Iliev.
„We may be in a currency board, but we must be in a moderate deficit, which is allowed. A sensible fiscal policy does not only mean cutting expenses. This means having a fair burden of tax and fair use of the budget for support”, said economist Evgeniy Kanev.
„For me, VAT will be raised and this will be the solution to the deficit. VAT will be around 23% so that they don't raise direct taxes. The flat tax will disappear. Bulgarians have to get used to the fact that the middle class will pay more and more. But now VAT will be raised for everyone”, Iliev pointed out.
„9% VAT for restaurants was a temporary measure to support during COVID. It is not clear why only restaurateurs should be privileged. It is not clear why pensioners should pay for medicines with 20% VAT, and restaurateurs should have 9%. This is lobbying and contradicts the eurozone,” Kanev emphasized.
“The administration's expenses must be cut. That is the biggest problem. Instead of reducing the state administration, we are increasing it in order to have an electorate. When we increase salaries, we increase them for everyone. At some point, it will happen that in the state administration they will receive higher salaries than in the private sector,” he pointed out.
