Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Courthouse, accompanied by their pets, to speak out against animal abuse.
The protesters demanded that the torturers from Pernik receive the harshest punishments and called for legal changes to introduce harsher punishments for these crimes, BNR pointed out.
"I want to say that animal abuse is equal to child abuse, because a dog thinks like a 3-year-old child, for example, and abusing animals somehow certainly leads to violence against people.
For me, these people are psychopaths and they do not belong outside. Certainly, although it might be better to leave them to the people's love, it would be more effective…
We want justice for what was done, because this is unacceptable. We cannot live in a country that tolerates mistreatment of animals in any way.
I think there should be a zoopolice…I think it is not normal in a normal country in 2025 that people should have to pray for such acts to have normal sentences…, protest participants told the Bulgarian National Radio.
