Problem with admission to nurseries and kindergartens in Sofia since day one. The application system has collapsed, and the expectations are that this year about 10,000 children will be left without places. The most serious problem is in the districts of “Vitosha”, “Studentski”, “Triaditsa” and “Lozenets”.
Desislava Zhelyazkova from the “Education” Directorate at the Sofia Municipality explained on the air of the program “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS that there are neighborhoods without a developed social infrastructure. “No thought has been given to where the children will go to kindergarten, although there is increased construction of buildings. By the end of the year, children's educational institutions in “Vitosha”, “Triaditsa” and “Strelbishte” will open their doors and we will immediately let them into the system. In the first region, we already have three expansions of existing kindergartens. We requested 450 million for new kindergartens and nurseries, but at the moment the proposal has not been accepted”, she revealed.
Regarding the promised compensation for parents of rejected children, Zhelyazkova explained that there is a delay - the amounts for November and December have not yet been transferred. “My information is that yesterday the funds were transferred to the municipalities, and they, in turn, will transfer them to the parents in the coming days. Until May 8, parents can change their wish in the system - to choose nurseries and kindergartens in neighboring regions of the one in which they live. Basic, social and additional criteria carry more points”, she noted.
