A new methodology for calculating the price of electricity will come into effect from July 1st, but this will not yet affect households.
The ultimate goal is complete liberalization of the electricity market.
Our country will not lose European money due to yet another postponement, this time by up to five years, of the entry into a free electricity market for household consumers, the Minister of Energy is convinced. There will be changes now, but they mostly affect the energy regulator.
„From July 1st, end suppliers will start buying energy from the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange, and we will again have a decision that will fix the price for household consumers. If this has been happening in the Energy Regulatory Commission, from now on it will happen with a report that I will receive from them“, explained Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, BTV reports.
This way, the price for household consumption will remain controlled and lower, the minister promised. And the difference for the energy companies themselves between the market price and the one at which they sell it to households will be covered by the energy security fund. In the coming years, work will also be done on software to determine the energy poor in our country.
“When the free market works, let's have a system in which, by pressing enter, we know exactly who the energy poor are. I don't think it's fair for a person with a three-story house, who has a swimming pool, a sauna - for the state to pay compensation in the long term," added Minister Staykov.
As for the losses we are accumulating under the gas agreement with “Botas“ Zhecho Stankov pointed out that since the beginning of the year “Bulgargaz“ owes the Turkish company about 300 million leva.
Also, at this moment we are not using the reserved capacity and gas is not flowing. Negotiations with the Turkish side are still ongoing, but for now without success.
