Rumen Babov is the new director of the territorial directorate of the Customs Agency in Plovdiv. The information is published on the official website of the institution.
Babov was deputy director and head of the "Subsequent control of excisable goods" sector in Plovdiv. He took up the position after the arrest of the previous director Miroslav Belyashki, who was arrested in an operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission on April 30.
Belyashki has been brought to criminal liability for thwarting a customs inspection of a truck carrying cigarettes.
According to the prosecutor's office, this is a truck with cigarettes, originating in Georgia, which entered our country through the border crossing "Kapitan Andreevo" and was intended to reach the Netherlands.
According to the state prosecution, Belyashki traveled to the crossing without being duly dispatched for this, with the intention of exempting the truck from the inspection and ensuring the convoy of the cargo to Vidin through the territory of the country.
The Sofia City Court ruled against him a measure of "detention in custody". The ruling is not final and is subject to appeal or protest before the Sofia Court of Appeal. In the event of such, the case is scheduled for May 8 at 10:00 a.m.
