The Sofia City Court has canceled the bail of 10,000 leva imposed by the prosecutor's office on former Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev. He announced this himself in a post on his Facebook profile, BNR reports.
"This was completely expected and I am not surprised by the court's conclusions that there are no motives for the imposed measure, and that from the evidence collected in the case "no reasonable conclusion can be made about the existence of a reasonable assumption that the accused is complicit in the commission of the crime for which he is being held criminally liable".

However, I am surprised to learn from the reasons for the court ruling that the conclusions of the main complex judicial financial-economic and construction-technical expertise appointed by the prosecutor's office and an additional one, based on whose conclusions I was charged, were not applied to the case", Demerdzhiev writes.

In his words, when revising a preventive measure imposed by the prosecutor's office, the court is obliged to consider the first prerequisite for imposing the measure – the existence of a reasonable assumption of a crime.

We recall that at the end of April, the former Interior Ministry chief found himself charged with mismanagement of nearly one and a half million leva under the contract for the construction of the system for preparing Bulgarian personal documents.
Demerdzhiev also writes that the court was unable to make the due assessment because the prosecutor's office had withheld and concealed from the court the main evidence on which the accusation is based - the forensic examinations.

"I do not know how to explain this deliberate obstruction of justice and therefore I expect the prosecutor's office to explain what is due to the deliberate concealment of evidence - Is she ashamed of her evidence, is she afraid that it will become public and her bankruptcy will be exposed, or is she simply continuing to consistently obstruct my right to understand on the basis of what evidence she has brought charges against me?

I have no doubt that I will defend myself against the accusation inspired by external political factors and legally unfounded, but the scary thing is that such an attack can be committed against any Bulgarian citizen and I will fight with all my might to change this," he concludes.
