The euro is a tailwind in the government's sails, but at the same time, the rejection of the referendum on the introduction of the currency in our country may also blow in the sails of President Rumen Radev, if he is truly serious and with the intention of a political project that has been talked about and speculated about for a long time.

This was commented to BNR-Radio Sofia by Assoc. Prof. Ivo Indjov, political scientist and analyst.

According to him, it is not certain whether the referendum proposed by President Rumen Radev is the result of a long-prepared move or a situational reaction.
The parliament rejected the proposal for a referendum on this topic, but it showed a show of strength, once again it became clear who is in the populist camp.

"The rejection of the referendum may serve as a catalyst for consolidating Radev's admirers - even those who are not so critical of the EU, but also supporters of our European integration, who have their own reasons for concerns about the consequences of the introduction of the euro in our country. Perhaps they have lower incomes or are more susceptible to propaganda. They should be worried about insufficient information, not the euro."

According to Indjov, it is strange why Radev did not initiate the referendum a year ago, but put the issue on the final right.

"Even if it does not achieve its ultimate goals, the referendum proposal stirred up political life. The positive thing is that it brought back interest in politics", he added.

According to the political scientist, this government will hardly last 4 years, because it is not known when the MRF-NN formation will decide that it is not profitable for it to support it, as well as for the BSP to participate in the government.

A negative convergence report for Bulgaria would be more surprising than Radev's referendum, Indjov added.
