Bulgaria ranks fourth among the EU countries in terms of GDP growth in the first quarter of 2025 (3.1 percent) compared to a year earlier. This is according to preliminary seasonally adjusted Eurostat data, BTA reports. Ireland is the leading EU country in this indicator with an annual GDP growth of 10.9 percent, followed by Poland (3.8 percent) and Lithuania (3.2 percent).
In the fourth quarter of 2024 GDP increased by 0.4% in the EU and by 0.2% in the eurozone, Nova TV added.
Negative growth in gross domestic product in the first quarter was registered on an annual basis in 4 EU countries. The recession is most pronounced in Slovenia (minus 0.8 percent), followed by Austria (minus 0.7 percent) and Hungary (minus 0.4 percent).
The largest economy in the European Union - Germany, also recorded negative annual growth in its GDP in the first quarter - minus 0.2%.
Bulgaria's gross domestic product in the first quarter of the year increased by 0.6 percent compared to the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted Eurostat data. In the fourth quarter of last year, Bulgaria's GDP grew by 0.9 percent compared to the previous three-month period.
In the first quarter of 2025, US GDP decreased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous quarter (with growth of 0.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024).
