From today until Sunday, at the discretion of the police, it is possible that the traffic of trucks over 12 tons will be redirected to bypass routes in the area of the "Topli Dol" and "Praveshki Hanove" tunnels on the "Hemus" motorway, the "Road Infrastructure" Agency announced, quoted by BTA.
The measure is being introduced during peak hours at the end of the working week and on weekends - Saturday and Sunday, when many people are on the road. The goal is to ease traffic.
In this way, only passenger cars and light trucks will pass in both directions on the section. The goal is to to increase traffic safety and ensure more comfortable passage through the section in the two tunnels, where major repairs are ongoing.
Today from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., heavy trucks traveling in the direction of Varna will be redirected, if necessary, from the “Vitinska Reka“ junction on the Sofia - Botevgrad road and will continue along the highway at the “Botevgrad“ junction. After that, their traffic will be redirected at the “Pravets“ junction on the Botevgrad - Yablanitsa road and will return to the highway at the “Osikovska Lakavitsa“ junction.
On Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., heavy trucks over 12 tons traveling to Sofia may be redirected at the discretion of the police on the return route.
If necessary, depending on the intensity of traffic and at the discretion of the police authorities, other restrictions may be introduced to ensure safe passage through the section of the "Hemus" highway, the road agency notes.
For an hour - from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today - traffic in the direction of Sofia will be stopped on the "Zheleznitsa" tunnel on the "Struma" highway. This was announced by the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API) and specified that the reason is a technical inspection of the facility.
Traffic will be redirected from the "Struma" highway at the 104th km on the Sofia - The tower to the "Blagoevgrad South" road junction. The maximum permissible speed will be 70 km/h.
The road agency appeals to drivers to strictly observe the posted road signs and to drive carefully, keeping a safe distance, to move at a reasonable speed and not to undertake risky overtaking, which endangers the safety of all other travelers.
