Andrey Kovachev: Radev's actions have no impact on either the EC or the ECB - 1

President Rumen Radev's proposal to hold a referendum on the euro has no impact on Europe. This was said by MEP from GERB Andrey Kovachev.

"Thank God that in Bulgaria the National Assembly very quickly convinced and stopped this attempt to delay, respectively, there is no impact on either the EC or the ECB and on the stability of the Bulgarian government", he emphasized.

Regarding concerns about possible price speculation, Kovachev said: "It is the responsibility of Bulgarian regulators and all Bulgarian institutions to first inform each of us exactly what will happen, when it will happen... And for traders and market participants to know what the control mechanisms are and, accordingly, the penalties if speculation occurs. We are not finding hot water. We know how it happened in the Baltic republics, most recently in Croatia. There must be state control and clearly defined mechanisms and measures to counter attempts, if there are such attempts, by unscrupulous traders who would use the so-called rounding of amounts in relation to the exchange rate of 1.95583, with which we will enter. It has been known to Bulgarians for a long time, since 1999", the MEP explained to Bulgaria ON AIR, quoted by FOCUS.

Kovachev also commented on the conclusions of the visit of the President of the European Council Antonio Costa to the countries of the Western Balkans and the report on Serbia, which was considered in the EP last week.

"Unfortunately, Serbia is lagging behind very seriously. Serbia is a very important country in the so-called Western Balkans, because Serbian influence in both RSM and Kosovo and Republika Srpska and Montenegro is historically predetermined and currently this influence is going in a negative direction. And Serbia, with its progress towards European integration, should also help those countries around it, in which there is Serbian influence, to be part of the EU. Unfortunately, this is not the case. These extremely close interactions with the Russian Federation are problematic in terms of European integration. Not to mention the rights of minorities in Serbia, especially the Bulgarian national minority in Bosilegrad and Tsaribrod, who are subjected to discrimination and lack of prospects for career development," Kovachev also said.
