The protest of Sofia's public transport workers continues. Trams, trolleybuses and buses have not been running in the capital for the fifth day.
Only the metro is operating.
There were many people at the tram depot in the capital's "Krasna Polyana" district, which is one of the 12 points of civil disobedience of the capital's public transport workers, as early as 4:30 a.m. Their protest is under the slogan "Decent work - decent pay". As of Wednesday at 12:00 p.m., the protest turned into civil disobedience.
Here is what the people from the "Krasna Polyana" depot told the Bulgarian National Radio: "We will endure as long as necessary... First, we apologize to our fellow Sofians for the inconvenience caused, but what I want to say is that after we have reached a protest, to block the public transport of Sofia, so far we have not been heard. I want to say that the Metropolitan supports electric and motor transport, the Central Transport Corporation is also here. We are one… People want their rights. People do not want to make it difficult for the common citizen, nor for students, nor for doctors, nor for anyone".
Employees in public transport are sounding the alarm and want attention to be paid to them. They are adamant that they have no political demands, they are simply fighting for their money to take care of their families. They are expecting an invitation to meet with the mayor of the capital, Vasil Terziev, and they confided that their last trump card will be the occupation of the metro and the suspension of the metro trains "and then we will see how events will develop". A petition for an effective strike is underway. And, when the signatures are collected, the subway may also stop its operation.
