Todor Kapitanov: Tomorrow the blockade will fall, there will be transport in Sofia - 1

"After six days of unprecedented union actions, six days of fatigue, hunger, cold and heat, rain. After six days of fruitless talks and negotiations, today, thanks to the prime minister, 15 million leva were secured additionally to finance public transport," said the vice president of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB), Todor Kapitanov.

According to the calculations that have been made, the funds are fully sufficient to provide for the demands for a salary increase of 300 leva.

"After this is voted on in the committees, the blockade may be lifted", said Todor Kapitanov from the CITUB.

There will be transport in Sofia tomorrow, the union announced.

In the words of Kapitanov, if "a person enters a depot, he will get sick". "We will enter into a conversation. We are ready for dialogue, as we have demonstrated many times. We will not run away from the difficult talks".

Organization is being made to launch the lines tomorrow. There will be no change in the schedule and timetables. "Bravo, well done, colleagues" - this is how the public transport workers greeted each other at the end.

They symbolically lifted the blockade, and then there was loud applause. The mayor and municipal councilors called on the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB) to learn a lesson from what happened. They also insisted on reforms to improve the working conditions of workers in the capital's transport sector.

We recall that today, at a meeting between Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and union leaders, it was agreed that the government would provide 15 million leva in addition to the subsidy for Sofia's public transport.
