Citizens are protesting in front of the Sofia Municipality building against the organization and holding of the upcoming Sofia Summer Fest. Their request is that the festival not be held in the South Park area because of the noise from the event, which lasts for more than a month in the summer, as well as because of the pollution of the area.
According to the protesters, the festival started during the COVID pandemic with the aim of being outdoors and not having people gather in closed spaces. According to them, the pandemic has passed, but the festival continues to be organized in the same place.
The dissatisfied also say that the park becomes dangerous during the festival because there are people who have used alcohol and drugs.
Stolich residents have organized themselves, intending to block an intersection if the problem is not resolved. "There is enough space for the festival to take place, and now those living in two neighborhoods are like its hostages," said Teodora Angelova, quoted by BTA.
Support for the protesters was expressed by the mayor of the "Triaditsa" district, Dimitar Bozhilov, as well as the municipal councilor from "Vazrazhdane" Deyan Nikolov.
