The referendum proposed by the president had no real legal basis on which to place it. It is illegal because of the time it was submitted - after signing the Maastricht Treaty and entering the waiting room of the eurozone. This was stated by PP-DB co-chairman Kiril Petkov on the sidelines of parliament, Nova TV reports.
"Denmark held a referendum before signing the Maastricht Treaty, and Sweden - before entering the waiting room. After that moment, any referendum is illegal. People's fears should not be used. Neither will inflation rise, nor will people become poorer. Everyone can see that in fact the economic growth of the countries in the eurozone is greater. I regret that this topic, which is so clear, is being used politically at the moment. I have confidence in competition. I know that any trader who tries to speculate will fall behind, because there will be honest traders to whom people will go. So the market will work more efficiently", commented Petkov.
The Good Neighborhood Agreement with the Republic of Macedonia
We count what happened in the hall today as a moral victory. Three years later, instead of the National Television shouting "Macedonia, Macedonia", they were reading from the rostrum a reaffirmation of the French proposal. We actually had full consensus in the hall. Everyone finally understood that the only way to protect the interests of Bulgarians in Macedonia is when the Bulgarian position coincides with the European one. Kaia Kallas herself voted for the French proposal. When I was the Prime Minister, she sat next to me. This position is strong, no retreat and finally the entire Bulgarian parliament understood what we were talking about," he commented.
