There is a complete consensus in society regarding North Macedonia and the entire European integration process concerning the Western Balkans. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev in connection with the decision of the National Assembly, which adopted a unanimous decision related to the progress of North Macedonia on the path to the EU.
"I thank the National Assembly for the active position", he said.
According to him, Bulgaria's European and restrained tone should not be confused with a lack of activity. "Bulgaria will continue to comply with the 2021 agreement. We will not give up an inch from it. We will not stop repeating that compliance with European requirements is what is needed in order to achieve progress," the minister said.
He also commented on whether Bulgaria would veto if the talks between the Prime Minister of North Macedonia and the EU lead to the start of negotiations for the country's accession before there is a change in the Constitution.
"From all the talks I have had so far, there is no attitude. Both the President of the Council Antonio Costa and the High Representative Kaia Kallas said one thing: There is no option B. The plan is one, changing the Constitution and fulfilling the criteria for the clusters, so that the process can move forward," he emphasized.
"The harsh rhetoric, the tone, the hate speech, the attempts to interfere in our internal affairs. "I call on everyone who wants to be part of the European system to respect European rules," the minister added, once again specifying that Bulgaria will uphold European law.
