"Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria" (DSB) demands a roundtable discussion to nominate a single candidacy of the democratic community for president. This is known from a resolution of the DSB Executive Council after a meeting yesterday, distributed by the party's press center, BTA reports.
In it, winning the 2026 presidential elections by the democratic community is defined as a key strategic goal and a key decision to consolidate the country's European course, halt institutional collapse and restore the rule of law and democracy. The initiative of the National Leadership of the DSB to hold a roundtable with public figures, sociologists and political scientists, together with the coalition partners from “Continue the Change“ and “Yes, Bulgaria!“, to begin a timely, structured and open process to present a unified, strong candidacy of the democratic community is welcomed.
The DSB considers the holding of preliminary national elections as one of the possible mechanisms for presenting a common candidate with a real chance of victory.
Faced with the danger of a runoff between a candidate of the status quo and the pro-Russian “alternative“ - we have no right to make a mistake. Our goal is clear - a European and democratic candidate, embodying the ideal of enlightened patriotism, who will win, restore the dignity of the presidential institution, be an expression of national unity and a guarantor of Bulgaria's European and Atlantic orientation and national security, the resolution states.
