Haralan Alexandrov: In the deep periphery of the country, you can hardly meet a person who is enthusiastic about the euro - 1

Even for the most apathetic Bulgarian citizen, it is obvious that there is tension in society and in all likelihood it will not subside. The reasons are not one and two - the division on basic issues among people, political parties are losing authority and representativeness, institutions are not doing their job properly, and are constantly accused of corruption and inaction. With such a picture, an explosion and change in the political status quo should be expected.

In the deep periphery of the country, you can hardly meet a person who is enthusiastic about the idea of the eurozone and the adoption of the euro as the Bulgarian currency. This was said on the air of Euronews PrimeTime by social anthropologist Haralan Alexandrov.

According to him, the reasons for this vary, but a large percentage of people are afraid that there will be a rise in prices, inflation will hit us, but this is something that is already noticeable - the rise in prices is visible.

According to Alexandrov, there are enterprising people, economically active, but they operate on the border between the shadow and the open economy. According to such people, the introduction of the euro in our country would be fatal, because they work mainly with cash, and many of them believe that the transition will mainly be to digital currency.

A third group of opponents of the euro among our compatriots, according to Haralan Alexandrov, are well-educated people who have nothing against the European integration of our country, but see the centrifugal trends that are entering Europe.

According to the social anthropologist, the hybrid war that is being waged in our country against the euro and the EU is greatly contributing to the permanent establishment of these fears in our society.
