Various aspects of the work of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria were the focus of the meeting between the Minister of Justice Georgiev and the European Prosecutor General Laura Kovesi.
The Minister of Justice informed the European Prosecutor General about the latest developments regarding several legislative initiatives. Georgi Georgiev presented the government's anti-corruption reforms and the new legislation to combat money laundering. The European Prosecutor General thanked the Minister for his commitment to ensuring the necessary conditions for the effective and independent exercise of the powers of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria, which includes the provision of premises suitable for housing the special administrative and investigative structure provided for in the national legislation. Understanding the numerous difficulties faced by the Bulgarian authorities, she reminded that they must nominate the missing qualified candidates for the position of European Delegated Prosecutor.
Minister Georgiev's visit to Luxembourg continues today with participation in the "Justice and Home Affairs" Council, part of the "Justice" section, where a directive harmonizing certain aspects of insolvency matters will be discussed, as well as a draft regulation that will guarantee the rights of adults, including elderly people in need of protection and defence, in cross-border situations, etc.
Minister Georgiev is also due to meet with the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Kuhn Lenaerts.
