Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov announced the Ministry of Interior's plan for the introduction of the euro in our country during the National Discussion “The Effect of the Eurozone“, quoted by dariknews.bg.
It includes a set of activities to protect the financial system and society during the currency transition period, the minister said.
"To guarantee the security of the monetary system and counter currency counterfeiting, the measures are aimed at ensuring sustainability and intersecting activities. The Ministry of Interior is implementing actions to identify structures. Expert capacity is being strengthened in close cooperation with the Bulgarian National Bank, the European Central Bank and structures at Europol", Minister Mitov also commented.
Systematic monitoring of the Internet is being carried out in order to identify channels for the distribution of counterfeit banknotes, as well as fake news related to the process of introducing the euro.
Internationally, the Ministry of Interior is working actively, assured Mitov. "It participates in initiatives and operational meetings with representatives of EU member states and international organizations. The main emphasis is on the exchange of good practices and analyses", he said.
Regarding the logistics of transporting banknotes and coins, Mitov said: "Meetings with banking institutions are held monthly. Security of sites is provided with the coordination of the Bulgarian National Bank.
