I have not received signals from the mayors of "Lyulin" and "Mladost" Georgi Todorov and Ivaylo Kukurin that they were offered to participate in corruption schemes. They have never signaled to me. This was stated by the chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council (SOS) Tsvetomir Petrov at a briefing, quoted by BTA.
Petrov said that the resignation of Kiril Petkov as co-chairman of "We continue the change" (PP) is an example of how to bear political responsibility, and only in case of suspicion of corruption. This is the right example for politics, said Petrov. According to him, the PP is obliged to bear its responsibility, such as it is. Petkov has nothing to do with the leaked recordings, but he bore political responsibility, said the chairman of the SOS.
He announced that on Sunday the PP has a National Council, which will make it clear how they continue as a party and in what format, as well as when their general meeting will be. Tsvetomir Petrov apologized that the democratic community in Bulgaria is put in such a situation.
His colleague Boyko Dimitrov commented at the briefing that Kiril Petkov's decision is reasonable and responsible. "Democratic Bulgaria" has always been absolutely intransigent to any manifestation of corruption. We insist on a full investigation, not only for this case, but also for other cases covered up by the prosecutor's office, said Dimitrov and assured that they will continue to fulfill their commitments to Sofia.
Kiril Petkov resigned yesterday as co-chairman of "Continue the Change" (PP) and as an MP.
The mayors of the Sofia districts "Mladost" and "Lyulin" and two municipal councilors from the PP announced on Monday that they were leaving the formation on the grounds that they were being pressured by the party. Officers of the Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday conducted searches in the Sofia Municipality, and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP) accused four people of taking bribes and participating in an organized criminal group.
