The tremors in the ranks of the "We Continue the Change" party in Sofia Municipality in recent days continue today - with a new batch of resignations. This has come to light after an action by the Anti-Corruption Commission in the municipality, a leaked recording, which is alleged to be of a conversation between Deputy Mayor Nikola Barbutov and the District Mayor of "Lyulin" Georgi Todorov, and which presents a "scheme for siphoning off public procurement contracts" and the resignation of Kiril Petkov as co-chairman of the party and a member of parliament.
Konstantin Bachiiski, chairman of the party "Middle European Class" and three-time MP from the PP, spoke about all this in the program "Face to Face".
“I am surprised by the quick reaction of the Anti-Corruption Commission, since I am closely familiar with the work of the former CPKONPI - I was a member of the parliamentary anti-corruption committee for three terms. In many significant cases with suspicions of involvement of top-level politicians, there was complete silence and a reluctance to work on these cases“, said Konstantin Bachiiski.
And he specified that he does not rule out the possibility that the recent events are the result of “a rather well-directed scenario by “Peevski photo studio“.
“It has come out in the public space that one of the mayors has recently awarded public contracts to companies publicly associated with Taki. That is why it is very important for me to investigate the details. Yesterday, investigative journalists published the public contracts, it was seen which companies have won very recently and because along with “Kapitan Andreevo“ I know some of the companies that are connected to these individuals and I just recognized them“, Bachiiski also said.
He added that he does not personally know any of the people who have resigned as members of the PP in recent days.
„Some of the people who joined the party in recent years, in my opinion, came with some other goals“, he explained.
And he defined himself as „the municipal councilor who has refused the biggest bribe not to do something, but to do nothing“
„This was related to the garbage collection of Burgas. My first goal then was to reduce the fees for household waste for businesses, since they were one of the highest in Burgas. At the moment I launched such a campaign, some people called me and asked if we could meet face to face. I go before I go to the committee, they give me a piece of paper and tell me to put in some invoice for 50 thousand leva, and they would pay it to me. I told them they were confused. What I am saying with this example is how important it is for people who are elected not to bend, betray or sell out,“ said Bachiiski.
