Rosen Plevneliev: Assen Vassilev must go if the PP has an instinct for survival - 1

If the PP has any instinct for survival and wisdom, it is imperative that both co-chairs resign. This was stated to NOVA NEWS by the head of state of Bulgaria (2012-2017) Rosen Plevneliev.

According to him, only a new leadership will leave the PP as a factor in Bulgarian politics.

"It is an honor for Petkov that he resigned, more politicians should be ready to do so. When there are suspicions of immorality and corruption, they should be ready to immediately resign. If the state subsidy had become 1 leva, the parties would have been entirely dependent on shadow financing. Thank God as head of state I did not allow it. Whether this will be the end of the PP depends on whether they will approach it correctly, wisely, democratically and responsibly. After all, the party has two chairmen, and only one is resigning due to a systemic problem in the party, why? There are no answers to many questions - this is not wise and democratic. If there is any survival instinct and wisdom in the PP, it is imperative that both co-chairmen resign", commented Plevneliev.

In his words, there are left-wing populists in the PP. "Such come to power when they oppose elites declared corrupt. They consumed the populist, becoming part of the elite, and have already become mired in a corruption scandal. The PP was born as a project that served the president and his second term. In addition, the pro-European space was divided," he believes.

Regarding the PP-DB coalition, Plevneliev pointed out that their voters would have difficulty recognizing a GERB candidate, despite the scandals. "PP-DB should not have formed a coalition, they reduced their voters that way. By continuing to be together, they are losing, one cannot pull the other. There will most likely be early elections next year," he noted.

On the topic of entering the eurozone, Plevneliev said that the government has a difficult task, but is striving to achieve something historic. "The protests against the euro are prepared provocations, there will be burning and breaking, every possible reason will be sought to project revolution and popular discontent before the world. "President Radev will want to take power in the period of instability after the adoption of the euro," he stressed.

According to Plevneliev, GERB should not announce its candidate long before the presidential vote.
