The Court of Appeal left the former deputy mayor of Sofia Nikola Barbutov in custody.
He is accused of participating in an organized crime group and promising a bribe to the mayor of “Lyulin" Georgi Todorov.
"There is no evidence that Nikola Barbutov committed the crime he is accused of and there is no reason to arrest him", his lawyer also said.
"It was never intended to violate the law and for companies to profit at the expense of others, and secondly, no money was specifically offered. Nikola Barbutov is a messenger and "let's kill the messenger", said attorney Lulcheva regarding the recording.
