This is a formal act that was expected and happened as announced, unfortunately today is truly a historic day for Bulgaria, because the social contract between the rulers and the ruled was torn to pieces. This was commented to journalists by Kiril Veselinski, chairman of the parliamentary group "Morals, Unity, Honor" (MECH), on the occasion of the final vote in the European Parliament in support of Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone from January 1, 2026. Later, the EU Council unanimously adopted the decisions for Bulgaria to enter the eurozone from January 1 next year.
The fragile peace that was achieved after 1989 has been destroyed today, Veselinski pointed out. Trust in politics is not built with bricks and mortar, but with compromise between those in power and those governed. Today it has been destroyed because I am convinced that the majority of Bulgarian citizens do not want Bulgaria to be part of the eurozone at this stage in 2026, added the MECH MP.
According to him, the reasons for this are many – inflation, galloping prices, the lack of a state, regulators and institutions that can do their job.
"There is currently euphoria, unfortunately, only in the rooms with bundles, ingots, drawers, which all of Bulgaria saw, euphoria is in those in power and unfortunately - in the television studios, inexplicably to me, from speakers who are sent there to explain how good it is and how Bulgaria will be economically stable. No, Bulgaria is not economically stable at the moment, there is a political crisis in Bulgaria and this will be the swan dance between Borisov and Peevski", Veselinski pointed out. According to him, Borisov and Peevski aimed to exchange positions - Borisov to become president, and Delyan Peevski to take over the post of prime minister in the country. "This will not happen because the Bulgarian people will not allow it", the MP from MECH also said.
According to him, the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov will not withstand the social uprisings that membership in the eurozone and the severe winter will cause. From now on, there will be a voice and vote of the majority of Bulgarian citizens, which will be against this political class that did not respect their desire and opinion to be asked when Bulgaria will be part of the eurozone, added Veselinski and insisted on new elections.
