Gas stations in the country will not be able to display prices in leva and euro simultaneously on their displays from August 8, as required by law. The reason is a technical impossibility, which necessitates the postponement of the measure until January 2026. By the end of the year, prices will be displayed only in leva on the displays, and from January 1 - only in euro.
Ventsislav Pengezov, owner of a gas station in Ruse, has started preparing for the requirements for dual price display. Since the large board in front of his gas station is not electronic, he has decided to display prices in leva and euro there as well. In addition, the prices of products at the gas station will also be in both currencies.
Dimitar Hadzhidimitrov from the Association of Bulgarian Traders, Producers, Importers and Transporters of Fuels explained on NOVA that due to technical impossibility, prices will not be able to be displayed simultaneously in leva and euro on the columns and signs at gas stations.
"This will remain so until the end of 2024, when prices will be displayed only in leva, and from January 1, 2025 - only in euro", said Hadzhidimitrov.
Traders are free to choose alternative options for informing customers in both currencies. This can be done through information boards in the shop windows, screens in the gas stations themselves or with values glued to the gas pumps.
Svetoslav Benchev, Chairman of the Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association, explained that a technician will have to visit each gas station, make improvements and install the new fiscal printer. About 3,000 cash registers will have to be updated.
Regarding fuel prices, Ventsislav Pengezov believes that at this stage the market is calm. According to industry representatives, current prices can be expected to remain at least until the end of the summer. According to experts, the prices of light fuels will range from 2.42 to 2.50 leva by the end of August, unless something drastic happens internationally.
