Assoc. Prof. Milen Lyubenov: No electoral alliance is emerging that could present an alternative to the government - 1

At this stage, no electoral alliance is emerging that could present an alternative to the government. This was explained to the Bulgarian National Radio by Assoc. Prof. Milen Lyubenov, a political scientist and lecturer at the Sofia University.

"There is potential, but this also requires a change in the political leadership in the parties themselves".

The political scientist defined the events that took place in our country last week as "another episode of what we call a conquered state".

"Another proof that in Bulgaria certain institutions are controlled by private entities and are used for political self-dealing. It is not something new, but it is very worrying. For the first time we see an attack on a majoritarian elected politician.

The strategy of the ruling party is to preserve this coalition at least until the end of the year and to try to mitigate the process that we observe as pressure on certain political players from the opposition. Certainly, both the European Commission and the European People's Party have given clear signals to GERB that it cannot continue in this direction".

Assoc. Prof. Lyubenov believes that from the point of view of political science, what is happening can be categorized as "a form of soft authoritarianism".

This bat has been in the same hands for the last 15 years, he said.

"There is a power model of governance.

Specifically, the CPC - PP - DB were warned by many experts that they were creating a repressive instrument, and now they are talking about closing this commission. This shows the lack of a clear plan. The problems in these formations are related to the lack of expertise that can lead to an effective fight against corruption".

The political scientist does not allow the PP-DB to disintegrate, "because this would have serious consequences for both formations".
