Construction of three new streets in the "Malinova Dolina" district in the "Studentski" district of the capital begins today with the opening of construction sites.
The construction and assembly works are scheduled to be completed by the end of October, the press center of the Sofia Municipality (SO) announced. Work will be carried out under suitable weather conditions, which also determine the deadline for completing the construction.
"Eduard Genov" Str., part of "Mirela Freni" Str. are being built and ul. "Prof. Zhivko Stalev" between ul. "Georgi Rusev" and the Sofia Ring Road.
The projects are financed under the municipality's capital program for 2025. The construction of ul. "Eduard Genov" and the section of "Mirela Freni" will be carried out by "Inmat Sofia" EOOD and amounts to a total of 5.36 million leva. ul. "Prof. Zhivko Stalev" is being built by "Shtrabag" EAD for 5.75 million leva.
The Sofia Municipality reports that among the main problems of the "Malinova Dolina" district is the lack of infrastructure, as its construction has lagged behind the construction of buildings, because the terrains are private, and there is a lack of public investment in this area. The new streets are expected to ease traffic on the main artery of the neighborhood, "Georgi Rusev" Street, which leads traffic to "Simeonovsko Shose" Blvd.
Preparation of the construction sites has been completed, according to the documents issued by the administration of the "Studentski" district. A temporary construction base has also been organized.
The new "Eduard Genov" Street will be located from "Prof. Zhivko Stalev" Street to "Nikola Stanchev" Street. The width of the roadway will be 14 meters. There will also be two-sided sidewalks with a width of 5 meters.
The new part of "Mirela Freni" Street will provide full transport service to the kindergarten in the "Malinova Dolina" district. The roadway will be 7 meters wide, and the sidewalks on both sides - 2 meters wide. It will connect ul. "Eduard Genov" with ul. "Enyo Valchev".
All engineering networks will also be built, providing utility services for the newly built buildings. At the intersection of ul. "Eduard Genov" and ul. "Mirela Freni", a reconstruction of the water supply and sewage network is planned. It is expected that the engineering infrastructure activities will improve the quality of the water supply service.
Ul. "Prof. Zhivko Stalev" will be parallel to ul. "Simeonovsko Shose". Its construction is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the boulevard and at its intersection with the Ring Road. Traffic on "Georgi Rusev" Street is also planned to be significantly eased. Transport connections are provided with "Prof. Dr. Ivan Stranski" Street, "Acad. Stefan Mladenov" Street, "8-mi Dekhembri" Street, "Kliment Ohridski" Blvd. and Sofia Ring Road.
The width of the roadway on the street will be 10 meters, there will be two-sided sidewalks of 2 and 3 meters. New engineering networks, water supply, sewage, drainage, electricity distribution, telecommunication networks and street lighting are being built. The new street lighting will be with energy-saving lighting fixtures everywhere. The sidewalks will be made of unipavement and will be designed to provide an accessible environment for people with disabilities and mothers with strollers.
The construction activities will be carried out in stages. The Sofia Municipality will monitor the quality of the implementation and compliance with the set schedules together with the administration of the "Studentski" district.
Due to the construction, the following changes in the organization of traffic are required:
- On "Eduard Genov" Str., traffic will be limited on the northern lane to carry out excavation work, construction of networks, laying of road base and asphalting. After which, traffic will be limited on the southern lane to carry out the necessary construction activities.
- On "Mirela Freni" Str., traffic will be limited between "Enyo Valchev" Str. and "Eduard Genov" Str. for excavation works for the construction of engineering networks and road construction. It will temporarily disrupt the entire passage along "Eduard Genov" Str.. "Georgi Rusev" and "Nikola Stanchev" Str. will be used as a bypass route.
- On "Prof. Zhivko Stalev" Str., traffic is limited from "Dimitar Trifonov" Str. to the local lane of the Sofia Ring Road. A total of 4 stages of traffic organization are planned, which will be introduced sequentially. Information about them will be published in a timely manner.
