Today the new locations for emergency drilling in Pleven should become clear. This is one of the measures determined by the Regional Crisis Headquarters to deal with the water shortage in the region. For several weeks now, people in the Pleven region have had water for a few hours in the morning and evening. The local water supply and sanitation department is justifying the water regime with the long summer drought and the outdated water transmission network, BNT reported.
Yesterday, residents of the city again went out to protest because of the water crisis. They insisted on specific and quick actions from the institutions to deal with the problem. The protesters gathered in front of the local water supply building.
As a sign of dissatisfaction, they threw empty bottles and cans of water at the company's building.
"I can't tell you when Pleven will have water. We are working on the problem, I don't turn the water on or off. There is a company that is responsible for the water and that monitors whether there are available quantities to be supplied to the city. The water supply has developed a map with 5 zones where the biggest losses are. In these neighborhoods, like "Druzhba", the situation is the worst," Pleven Mayor Valentin Hristov told BNT.
"This is from last night, look at what's flowing from the taps. The Water Supply and Sanitation Department explains to us that the water is drinkable - I would gladly give them unlimited quantities. What diseases can ignoring the city's problems lead to in an entire city? We will not tolerate such behavior of people who are incompetent, the whole country forgot that Pleven exists. We have submitted documents to the prosecutor's office", added Borislav Tsvetkov.
According to him, it is unacceptable to spend funds in this way - "instead of 1 meter of pipe, we pay 5 and do not know the warranty periods".
"Why, given that there is a ready project, are they not digging? Why did they asphalt the street in front of the municipality yesterday, which they will cut to replace the pipes. They are washing the streets with industrial water", commented Borislav Tsvetkov and called for adequate measures to be taken.
"I did not know that it was asphalted yesterday and I will check", said the mayor of Pleven Valentin Hristov.
"Fragmented responsibility for water management in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is in a period of drought - strategic measures must be launched to kill the water genocide, which according to the last extraordinary commission affects over 500,000 citizens. Irrigation is missing," commented Asen Lichev, former Minister of Environment and Water.
