IPB: Three Turkish TIRs are driving from Vratsa to Sofia at 120 km/h. Where is the state?" - 1

Three heavy goods vehicles with Turkish registration were moving at high speed and aggressive behavior on the Vratsa - Sofia route at around 10:00 p.m. on September 6, 2025. The Institute for Road Safety (IPB) reported this in a report to the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov, quoted by news.bg. According to eyewitnesses, the trucks were moving at about 120 km/h.

The IPB points out that the lives and health of all road users were endangered. The organization states that four reports were filed on phone 112 without any reaction from the police. Only after they parked alone on the Sofia Ring Road did a police team arrive, draw up warning protocols and release the drivers, without calling inspectors from the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration" (IAAA - the former DAI). The incident was filmed with a video recorder by a citizen who wanted to testify, but his testimony was not taken.

The Institute for Road Safety defines the behavior of the truck drivers as dangerous and unacceptable and finds the lack of a timely and effective reaction from the Ministry of Interior even more worrying. The organization expects coordinated actions by the "Traffic Police and IAAAA to establish all circumstances, check tachographs, documents, technical condition of the vehicles and sanction them to the full extent of the law.

"We ask the Minister of Interior: Is this normal? Where is the control? Where is the responsibility?", the organization asks.

The IPB emphasizes that it is time for real action, emphasizing that Bulgarian citizens have the right to safety on the road and expect the state to protect them.

The organization demands an immediate investigation into the case, to establish the reasons for the lack of reaction to the reports, sanctions for the responsible officials when shortcomings are identified and provision of information on the actions taken and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"Three Turkish TIRs are speeding from Vratsa to Sofia at 120 km/h. Four signals on 112. No reaction. Where is the state?", the IPB asks and demands responsibility and real action.

"Because the lives of Bulgarian citizens are worth no less than the lives of anyone else. Because "Road control is not just a facade and statistics. Mr. Minister, it's time to wake up. Empty promises are already killing," the Road Safety Institute addressed Daniel Mitov.
