The motives for the fifth vote of no confidence are clear, the PP-DB announced. It is expected to be submitted very soon. What is its objective and whether it will bring down the government, commented on the air of “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS by political scientist Assoc. Prof. Stoycho Stoychev and media expert Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov.
“It is unlikely that the fifth vote of no confidence will succeed in bringing down the government, which should be its authentic objective, but it may set the tone for a different oppositional image of the PP-DB. As if they have some need to reaffirm their identity. First, as an opposition alternative and second, as an alternative to the other opposition, which until now has been submitting votes of no confidence”, commented Assoc. Prof. Stoychev.
“It is clear that there are two types of opposition in the country at the moment. One is the group of “Vazrazhdane”, “Velichye” and MECH, and the other is PP-DB, which simply wants to distinguish itself, to acquire some kind of independence, character, and on topics that it has long exploited”, he added.
According to Assoc. Prof. Stoychev, these are the topics of the rule of law, of legality, of the conquered state, insofar as this is a relevant category for our country. “The concept was developed in Latin America and has a more specific meaning, because there are cartels and mafias there”, explained the political scientist.
According to Assoc. Prof. Lozanov, the vote is a natural reaction, because the PP-DB are in fact representatives of the democratic right in Bulgarian society. And it expressed its political expectations back in the protests in 2020. “They were against a model of governance that we associate with Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski”.
According to him, the situation is the same now. “This model continues to function in some way and has even become more established. The PP-DB tried in various ways to fight it over the years, but this fight obviously did not yield results and now it is about something else. It is related to identity, to making it clear that they do not support this model and do not want to have anything to do with it”, he commented.
“In Bulgaria, the power is the executive. It is no coincidence that Bulgaria has become a prime minister's state and that was the case back in the years. Now the image of the prime minister is complex. He is triple - in front there is an official figure, an elected prime minister with a European face, behind him stands his party leader, who is the party prime minister - the person in whom the party power is. Behind him there is a shadow prime minister, who is Delyan Peevski. He comes out from time to time and says: “I will allow this, I will not allow that”. They function in such a complex triple image system and in fact this creates the attitude towards imposing the model against which the protests began”, explained Assoc. Prof. Lozanov.
The media expert commented that the vote is a reaction to the fact that PP-DB continues to be an opposition to this model.
