A plot of about 15 thousand acres (about 6 thousand hectares) in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard has been put up for sale for 300 million euro, reported Bloomberg.
According to the agency, the Manhattan-sized parcel of land in the high Arctic latitudes is of “geopolitical importance”. “This is the only opportunity for the buyer to take a strategic position in the high Arctic,” Per Killingstad, a lawyer representing the sellers, said in an interview with the agency. According to him, this is the last private plot of land in the Norwegian archipelago.
As Bloomberg explains, the site is located near the town of Longyearbyen on Svalbard, includes “more than three miles of coastline and is full of mountains, fjords and arctic wildlife.“
The sale of the object is carried out by the international company Knight Frank LLP, the agency states.
