„Vault for ideas“ – this was the name of the competition for the future of the building, an architectural monument of culture in the center of Plovdiv, known as the former BNB building, which ended a few days ago.
42 projects have entered the competition, which aims at the sustainable preservation of our cultural heritage. What is more interesting is that they are not only Bulgarian, but also from many international ones. Projects were submitted by participants from 16 countries, including Argentina, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Vietnam, Germany, Italy, China, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, Hungary and Japan. Of the total number of proposals, 19 are Bulgarian, and 23 – international.
„Each of the submitted proposals brings its own unique approach to caring for the object as an immovable cultural heritage, its vision for the future function of the building of the former Bulgarian National Bank”, members of the jury comment.
Here are some ideas of what to turn the building into:
- library and Bulgarian literary center;
- Japanese Cultural Center;
- arts academy;
- study center;
- center for theater art;
- home of music;
- a center for young talented future artists;
- cultural center and place for contemporary expositions.
The difficult task of the jury to determine the three best projects is ahead. The winners will receive a premium of BGN 3,000, and Plovdiv residents and guests of the capital will be able to see them at an exhibition organized for the purpose. Also, the three best proposals will be subject to public discussion. If some of them are accepted, the municipality of Plovdiv will implement them.
