The unique architectural monument in the Rococo style - the Chinese Palace of Catherine II in Oranienbaum, has been fully opened after long-term restoration, the last interior halls of the cultural heritage site have been completed.

„In 2007, the Peterhof Museum Reserve and Gazprom signed an agreement for the complete restoration of the Chinese Palace, for the restoration of all internal halls and rooms. Today we are finishing our work and we can rightfully say that the Chinese Palace has already become a place of attraction for the residents of St. Petersburg and numerous tourists. We express our great gratitude to all museum employees for supporting the initiatives and for the fruitful joint work, said the Chairman of the Board of PJSC Gazprom at the ceremony. Alexey Miller.

Miller and current general director of the Peterhof Museum-Reserve Roman Kovrikov noted his great contribution to the successful completion of the restoration of the honored figure of culture of the Russian Federation Elena Kalnitskaya, who led the museum in 2009-2022. The museum staff under her guidance, together with the restorers, they were able to solve complex and unusual problems that arose during this long process.

„After the war, the miraculously preserved Chinese palace was one of the first to receive visitors and was restored. But in the 80s the palace needed a new restoration, went through a long road of approvals and finally in 2007 we started this difficult but finally finished road of restoration. The Chinese Palace has finally opened its doors in all its splendor and splendor, Kovrikov added.

As the head of the “Own dacha“ sector said. at the ceremony: Department "Preservation and Research of the Oranienbaum Monuments" GMZ "Peterhof" Tatyana Syasina, after restoration, the palace will be able to exist without intervention for a long time. This is facilitated by the climate control system created here, as well as conservative heating. A museum exhibition has already been created in most halls, new exhibitions are being prepared in the others.

„It is impossible to compare the Chinese Palace with any other. This is a museum that has preserved not only the interior from the Catherine era, but also the very aura, what we call the sense of history when we enter and believe that Catherine was here. The restoration is already a completed stage“, emphasized Tatiana Syasina.

The Chinese Palace is considered a unique architectural monument in the Rococo style. It was built by order of Empress Catherine II as a building for short-term recreation, designed by the Italian Antonio Rinaldi. The palace got its name thanks to the favorite interior of the empress, made in the Chinoiserie style - an orientalist imitation of Chinese architecture. The palace remains one of the few imperial residences in the suburbs of St. Petersburg that were practically undamaged during the Great Patriotic War, thanks to which the monument retains its original interior and appearance.
