The procedure for the design and construction of Terminal 3 at Sofia Airport „Vasil Levski“ begins today, the concessionaire company „SOF Connect“ announced. The start of the modernization of Terminal 2 has also been announced. Applications can be submitted until October 1, 2025. After reviewing and analyzing the applications received, the airport operator will officially launch the award procedure by publishing an announcement on the website of „Vasil Levski“ Sofia Airport.

The investment price for the construction of the third terminal is BGN 450 million., which must be provided by the concessionaire plus another BGN 50 million. additional investment in equipment.

“This is the largest public infrastructure development project that is to be implemented in the country in the next 5 years. We are convinced that companies with proven expertise and successfully implemented large infrastructure projects will be interested in it, so that in 2031 Bulgaria can have a world-class airport.“, said Jesus Caballero, CEO of “SOF Connect“.

The new terminal should have an area of 60,000 sq m. It should be connected to the currently existing Terminal 2. After the construction of Terminal 3, Sofia Airport will almost fully expand its passenger handling capacity from 7 million to 20 million people per year.

The new terminal will include:

  • Areas for arriving and departing passengers;
  • Centralized checkpoint for security;
  • Offices and service areas for airport users;
  • Passenger wing;
  • Retail areas.

The modernization of Terminal 2, whose area is 72,000 sq.m. includes:

  • Expansion of retail space in both the public and post-security areas;
  • Conversion of existing passenger processing areas into offices and ancillary facilities for airport users;
  • Repair and upgrade of existing airport systems (ICT and fire extinguishing systems).

Construction works will be carried out in the vicinity of Terminal 2, which will continue to operate.

The existing ground infrastructure such as parking lots, access roads and passenger traffic areas must remain operational throughout the construction period.
