The denouement of the murder that shook the Smolyan region. Hours after he was declared a national wanted man, the police detained the alleged perpetrator of the serious crime that occurred on one of the most visited tourist trails - “The Bride“ in Pamporovo. On Monday, 40-year-old Pavel Hristov from Yambol was found dead there.
After the murder, which was committed on Sunday evening 400 m from the beginning of the eco-trail, the suspect was hiding in a hut above Chepelare. He is 43 years old. He had a backpack and a large sum of money with him. A year and a half ago, he had a relationship with the victim's girlfriend. Investigators suspect that the perpetrator even used a tracking device to track the woman's whereabouts at any given moment. According to NOVA, the victim and his girlfriend were staying at a hotel in Pamporovo.
The detainee is extremely physically fit, a professional mountain guide, an experienced mountaineer and marathon runner, emphasized the director of the Smolyan Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tsvetan Tsankov. According to information, the detainee is an IT specialist.
According to the police, the perpetrator sprayed the victim with a hot spray and inflicted multiple stab and cut wounds on her. The man handcuffed the 39-year-old woman and said that he was going to the car to get something, but would return for her. She managed to escape, descending a slope, and was not injured. She hid behind a rock and stood motionless for a long time. The crime was reported by a passerby, as the perpetrator took his ex-girlfriend's phone.
“From the evidence collected, we can say that the crime was probably committed out of jealousy”, commented the Smolyan District Prosecutor Nedko Simov. According to him, the suspect is about to be charged and a measure of “detention” will be requested for him.
On Friday, the Smolyan court will consider whether to keep the suspect permanently in custody.
