The case against the 19-year-old driver who caused the serious accident in Razgrad in July, in which three people died, is being heard in the Ruse District Court. After the recusals of the Razgrad magistrates, it became clear that the trial will be heard in Ruse, BNT reported.
In addition to his lawyer, 19-year-old Nikolay Dyulgerov entered the hall of the Ruse District Court with his parents. He remained silent, only his parents spoke in front of the camera.
"Condolences to the relatives of the deceased, I also want to turn back time, but there is no way", commented Nikolay's father.
"We tell him that he will endure what he has to and that is what we should tell him", added Nikolay's mother.
The lawyers of the relatives of the victims requested the disqualification of the supervising prosecutor in the case and the entire staff of the Razgrad District Prosecutor's Office.
As a reason for this, they indicated that the mother of the 19-year-old accused works at the Razgrad District Court and it is likely that they know each other.
The state prosecution responded to these doubts as unfounded and false. The relatives of the victims also entered the courtroom, demanding a fair trial and a fair verdict.
"The supervising prosecutor in the case from the District Prosecutor's Office - Razgrad has made a number of omissions both in terms of the charges filed, which are for reckless acts, which we do not agree with, and we believe that there is evidence of his interest in the successful outcome of the case with respect to the defendant," said Boris Sakaliev, lawyer for the relatives of the deceased.
After a short break, the court in Ruse rejected the request for recusal.
The 19-year-old's alcohol and drug tests are negative. The defendant is currently under house arrest. The defense of the victims' relatives demanded a harsher measure - "detention in custody", as well as a requirement for biological samples for the use of nitrous oxide.
If found guilty, he faces 5 to 15 years in prison.
